Starting in one of the senior groups with strong sides from Ards, Ballynahinch, Banbridge, Grosvenor and Randalstown, Bangor started well with a resounding win over Banbridge. Immediately afterwards, however, Banbridge withdrew from the competition and the result was declared null and void. With defeat by Randalstown in the next game, Bangor were informed that already they would not be able to finish high enough to progress to the knock-out stages.
Although obviously disappointed with this news at such an early stage in the competition, Bangor continued to turn in solid performances against Grosvenor and Ards, but were not able to reproduce the early promise shown against Banbridge.
With pre-season games apparently becoming harder to arrange each year, this was a useful opportunity for the 3rds to shake off the cobwebs and prepare for the start of their league on 5th September, away to Civil Service 2nds.
