It was with regret that we learned of the passing of Drew Kirkpatrick on Sunday 14th March

It is with deep regret and sadness that we learned of the death of Vice President and former Club Honorary Secretary, Drew Kirkpatrick, who passed away at home in Ballyclare on Sunday 14th March 2021 at the age of 81.

Drew, who was originally from North Belfast and lived most of his working life in Lisburn, joined the club in the late 1980s when he moved to Bangor and where his younger brother Griff was heavily involved as Rugby Section Fixtures Secretary at that time. Although Drew was too old to have played rugby or cricket at Bangor, he nevertheless immersed himself in supporting the rugby section of the Club. He enjoyed watching the 1st XV both at home and away, but particularly revelled in the social side of the sport in the company of friends and colleagues, thoroughly enjoying the craic in the bar before and after matches. Always one to help out in whatever way he could, Drew took on the role of Club Honorary Secretary in the late 1990s, a role he carried out diligently for a number of years under the Chairmanship of Chris Harte. It was during this time that Drew was offered and was delighted to become a Vice President of the Club. Although Drew hadn’t been around the Club in recent years, he retained his affection and support for the Club where his good company, wise and considered counsel, and gift for breaking into song endeared him to many.

Drew made a valued contribution to the life of Bangor Rugby & Cricket Club both as a non-playing member and an unassuming volunteer. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying his good company. Drew is survived by his three daughters Aundrea, Ashleigh and Amanda. To Drew’s daughters, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to the wider family circle, we extend our deepest sympathy.

In keeping with the current COVID restrictions the family home and funeral will be private.
