Although Ken gave the appearance of a quiet and thoughtful man when seen around Upritchard Park, he had a full and varied sporting life, and made a significant contribution to the development of youth rugby at Bangor RFC.
Ken had a great love for football - he played in goal for Cliftonville and later helped to set up and run the Towerview Boys team - but he also enjoyed following the exploits of his sons Neal and David as they played rugby, first at Bangor Grammar, then later with Bangor RFC.
His interest in the youth game led him to join forces with Rody Ward in coaching the U16 and U18 teams, and which culminated in cup winning success. He also played and later refereed with Civil Service. Ken later returned to Upritchard Park and served as the club's Child Protection Officer, during which time he set up the original Child Protection protocols for the Rugby section.
In more recent years, Ken was part of the 'pink polo shirt brigade', who travel the length and breadth of Ireland to lend gentlemanly support at AIL fixtures. His good company, gentle manner and clever wit will be sorely missed.
A service of thanksgiving for Ken's life will be held in St Columbanus Church or Ireland, Groomsport Road, Ballyholme at 2:00pm on Thursday 2nd December.
To Ken’s wife Ann, sons Mark, Neal and David, and the extended family circle, we extend our deepest sympathy.
