The hard-working rugby committee has hopefully put in place a young and dynamic management team that will take the club forward for the next few years -
Jason Morgan – an able assistant to the inimitable Rupert Preston for 4 years, Jason has finally decided to hang up his white Pumas and takes over the reigns as Head Coach. After a successful season coaching both the backs at Ulster U19 Level and as Head Coach of the Ulster Juniors, who took the interpro series for the first time in 10 years going unbeaten in the tournament, Jason is the absolute ideal man to take us to where we want to go; the club are excited to have the much sought after Kiwi at the helm. We feel there is no better rugby coach in the province.
Michael Ferguson -
Mike, who has played all his rugby at Malone & Queens, comes into aid Jason as his assistant coach - he will also add depth to our playing squad in the forwards. A former Irish Schools international, he helps coach Ulster U19s along with Jason so their relationship is already forged! His early ideas and knowledge have brought an extra edge to the season’s planning meetings already and he will be an invaluable senior player.
Jamie Clegg – Jamie continues as 1st XV captain for the 3rd year. Coming off the captaincy of the successful Ulster Juniors, he brings experience and knowledge that belies his 25 years. His relationship with Jason is the foundation on what everything will be built on this season as the two of them work towards achieving the clubs goals. His impeccable approach to training, to playing and to off field extra-curricular activities confirms him as the ideal candidate for club captain for another year.
James Ferguson – James has been chosen as 2nd XV captain for season 2015/16, chosen for the way he plays the game, his affinity with all players of all ages and the work he does for the club off the field. His leadership qualities are there for all to see and he will be accepting nothing but a successful season for the 2nds in what will prove to be one the toughest leagues in Ulster.
Ricky Armstrong – After finally retiring (again), Ricky takes over as 1st XV manager for this season. His knowledge of everything Bangor and the needs of the different personalities around the place will be invaluable in aiding the coaching team to get the best out of their players. Although his primary focus will be on the 1st XV, his passion for the club as a whole will undoubtedly see his infectious enthusiasm permeate throughout the whole squad.
Mark Vance – Mark (or Vinny) comes in to assist Ricky with the 1st XV & 2nd XV set up. After his playing career was halted early due to injury, Vinny like any good club man took over the management of the 3rd XV a number of years ago and has taken them from a team that regularly cancelled games and struggled to field teams to a position where last season we regularly had enough to put out a 4th XV. It is a promotion within the club that was a long time coming and his organisational skills, work rate and ‘just muck in’ attitude will bring to the 1st XV squad an added professionalism.
Ryan Meeke – Ryan continues as 2nd XV coach this season. After a horrific injury 2 seasons ago that not only halted his playing career but forced him out of work, Ryan got stuck into the 2nd XV roll last year, getting the 2nds promoted to Junior One and winning the Inaugural Crawford Plate. It will be exciting times for Ryan over the next few seasons as he continues to learn from Jason and Mike; he is a superb coach of the future.
Jamie Foulkes – Foulksie comes into help out Ryan this year as an assistant coach and manager of the 2nd XV. Jamie brings real experience to the role and a passion for the club unrivalled within any team. He is an example to all the young players coming through of how to conduct yourself both on and off the pitch. No bigger character around the place.
Jason Rainey - Jason makes a welcome return as the 3rd XV coach, ably assisted by another ex-Bangor player Richard Lacey. Jason has a long and impressive record at Bangor and has proved to be an inspirational coach, most recently with the Youth Section. The hard working Alan Acheson continues as 3rd XV captain and also manages nearly every other aspect of the team’s activities. The 3rds enjoyed a real resurgence in both performance and dedication last year, and this season’s combination of a wise and mature coaching team with a young and eager pool of players will hopefully lead to even greater success.
We wish them all well and would encourage all members and friends of the Club to show their support both on the touchline and in the clubhouse afterwards.
