Peter Leathem

Roger Corbett22 Jan - 11:28

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Peter Leathem on 17th January 2025.

Peter was a dedicated rugby man from his playing days at Lurgan College, Lurgan Rugby Club, and finally Bangor Rugby Club until a back injury ended his career in 1984. Peter remained affiliated to Bangor Rugby Club and played Thursday Night Touch Rugby until well into his forties. He also drove the 'Manxie Bus' every other week, enabling Adrian Mancarelli and many other folk to attend Bangor's away matches.

Peter became an Ulster Branch referee when he turned 50, and spent many happy years travelling the province in this role. When injury ended his refereeing career, Peter became part of the AD Team at Kingspan, providing commentary for blind and partially sighted supporters at Ulster's home matches.

Rugby was Peter's place of absolute joy in life, and he revelled in being part of the Ulster Rugby Family right up to the very end. He will be greatly missed.

Peter was the devoted and much-loved husband of Sandra, dearly-loved father of Stuart and Gemma, loving grandfather of Joey, Clodagh, Oliver and Finn.

A Thanksgiving Service will take place in Bangor Citadel, Salvation Army on Friday 24th January at 11am.

Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Peter may be made online to the Salvation Army via his tribute page at johngrayfuneraldirectors.com.
