Remembering Andy Wray

Remembering Andy Wray

Roger Corbett14 May 2021 - 09:22

The youth section are doing a 5K run in support of the Wray family's chosen charity

It's almost a year ago that Andy Wray passed away. He was a regular touchline supporter at youth games, just as that section began to take off a few years ago. This support included providing the majority of photos taken at both the U14 and U16 games, and sharing these with the Club via this website. Although Andy is no longer with us, we are grateful for the continued support of both his wife Michelle, who continues to capture the action with her camera, and also his son Tom who is an active participant in our youth section.

Andy's daughter, Jessica, has set up a Just Giving page (click HERE for details) for the Hope2Sleep charity, which supports patients with all kinds of sleep disordered breathing, including sleep apnoea.

To support Michelle, Thomas, Jessica and this worthy cause, our youth section are going to hold a fund raiser.

Pen in your diaries the evening of Wednesday 2nd June. All players, coaches and parents are encouraged to do a 5km run, which will be at the club. There will be an entrance fee of £5 for all runners / joggers / walkers / crawlers!

The final word comes from Andy's wife, Michelle.

"Hi, I hope this is ok to share with you all.

Jessica and Tom are doing a memorial walk for their dad in June. The charity they have chosen to support is www.hope2sleep.co.uk. It is a sleep apnoea charity and they do a lot of work raising awareness of this illness. Sleep apnoea is a silent killer, if left undiagnosed and untreated. Andy was passionate about raising awareness and learning as much as he could about this illness. It was also one of the many reasons why his heart started to fail, many years ago, as it was undiagnosed for over 5yrs.

As a club you've all been so supportive to us as a family, but especially to Tom. It would mean the world to him and Jessica if you could support them, whether that's financially, walking with them or doing something yourself to remember Andy, as we come to his first anniversary on 6th June.

Thanks for reading and again, for all your support.

Michelle"
