With the impending arrival of Storm Jorge, Bangor U16s were set to unleash their own storm against Malone and Ophir, in a mini blitz hosted at Orangefield in East Belfast.
Each match was short and sharp, at 20 minutes in duration. First up was Bangor vs Ophir, in what was a keenly contested affair. The match was extremely fast paced and played at a high intensity. Bangor produced some excellent attacking rugby, but were unfortunately let down by a number of missed or poor tackles, or were second best at the breakdown.
That being said, this was an extremely competitive game, and both teams were very evenly matched across the park. Final score 3 tries to 1 to Ophir.
With a quick water break, and with the coaches words still ringing in their ears, Bangor then played Malone.
This presented a slightly greater challenge in terms of physicality, however this was again a very keenly contested game. The young men’s demise was again some poor tackling and being out muscled at the breakdown.
As the game progressed, the fresh legged Malone had a slight advantage having been rested. However this was a competitive game from the outset, to the final whistle. Again Bangor showed some good continuity in their attack, and played to the final whistle, which brought an end to an intense and fiercely contested 40mins of back to back matches. Final score Bangor 1 Malone 4.
Thanks as always to all travelling supporters.
